Bio

Sywal Mezonlin is a Mechanical Engineering Ph.D. candidate with anticipated graduation in 2025. His research innovates additive manufacturing by integrating advanced transmission systems with robotic manipulators to achieve high-resolution 3D printing at reduced costs, enabling sophisticated non-planar fabrication for diverse applications.

Research

This research explores the combination of Spherical Continuous Variable Transmissions (S-CVTs) and a robotic manipulator for Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), aiming to enhance print resolution while reducing system costs. The proposed design leverages S-CVTs to precisely control a wide range of gear ratios, enabling more refined material deposition along complex curved geometries. The study demonstrates the advantages of using S-CVTs in achieving advanced slicing techniques, such as conformal adaptive slicing, reducing the staircase effect, and improving surface quality. The preliminary findings suggest that this approach can deliver high-resolution 3D printing at a lower cost, benefiting research and small-scale manufacturing applications.
