Bio

Mary Jean Savitsky is a Biomedical Engineering Ph.D. candidate with anticipated graduation in 2026. She designs advanced 3D culture platforms that replicate the mechanical and biochemical properties of native liver tissue to accelerate drug discovery and support tissue-restoration therapies for liver failure.

Research

My research is centered on developing 3D culture systems to create biomimetic liver models. These systems incorporate hydrogels and a novel microfibrous matrix for 3D bioprinting and high throughput drug screening applications. By introducing the hydrogel aspect, I hope to tune the mechanical properties of the culture environment to mimic that of in-vivo liver tissue. This technology aims to support early-stage drug development and in vivo tissue restoration to address liver failure.
